What We Do:

By helping cafes put sustainability to practice, we are brining this concept to the mainstream, which is essential for building the environmental stewardship and social capital necessary for driving truly lasting change.  On the ground, our actions include:

• We provide free consulting services to independently owned, neighborhood coffee shops to assist them in lowering their environmental impacts, obtaining green business certification and helping them to reap the economic, environmental and social benefits that come with adapting green business practices.
• We provide free assistance in developing creative ways for each café to inform and inspire their customers on sustainability in a way that is appealing to each café’s community.
• We are creating a systematic standard of criteria for coffee shops to be acknowledged as a sustainable café, and we invite cafes into Green Café Network once they have committed to these standards and perform a certain amount of green business practices.
• In our network, cafes receive leadership and support directly related to the sustainability of their businesses (i.e. facilitating the bulk purchasing of eco-friendly products, facilitating relationships with local food producers, increased publicity, networking, etc.).
• We are creating a website (keep checking back!) that will serve provide publicity to green cafés as well as information for the public regarding environmental issues, sustainable coffee, consumer choices, eco-friendly products, environmental organizations and much more.
• We aim to partner with existing government and community programs to collaborate efforts at increasing sustainability and environmental stewardship among citizens, small businesses and organizations.
• Using our network, we aim to leverage a collective voice and power that can influence product supply chains, influence consumer demand for green products, promote social justice, influence policy, inspire citizen action and mainstream sustainable living.
